How to Keep Sand Out of Your Car in Dubai: Mats, Trunk and Cleaning

Why sand ends up in every corner of the car

Sand comes into the car on shoes, clothes and gear. After a beach afternoon or a night in the dunes, every passenger carries a little in, and it drops to the floor the moment they sit down. Desert camping season runs from October to April, according to Khaleej Times, so for seven months of the year weekend trips keep bringing sand home.

The real problem is where the sand goes next. On a loose or thin mat, it slides off the edge and works into the carpet underneath, into the seat rails and around the pedals, where a quick vacuum no longer reaches it. The goal is simple: keep sand on top of a surface you can lift out, shake and wash.

EVA cells trap sand instead of spreading it

For beach and desert use, EVA is the practical choice, because sand settles into its cells and the whole mat can be hosed clean. Our EVA has a honeycomb or diamond-cell surface, so loose grains sit in the pattern instead of sliding around under your feet. At home you lift the mat, tip it out and rinse it.

A custom EVA set costs AED 250 for four mats: two front and two rear split. Stitched leather edging is included, and so are measuring and fitting at your place in Dubai. A custom fit closes the gaps sand slips through

Fit matters as much as material, because sand escapes wherever a mat stops short of the floor. A universal mat is one standard shape made for most cars and is not measured to yours, so it cannot follow your floor as closely. A custom-cut mat follows the shape of your floor, and the stitched leather edging finishes the border cleanly.

We take the pattern at your home, office or car park in about 15 minutes, or use your old mats as a template. The set is cut on our own machine and sewn in our Sharjah workshop: stocked colours are ready within 1–2 days, made-to-order colours in 2–4 days. We then fit it at your car in about 10 minutes. To be clear about what we make: our mats are custom-cut to the shape of your floor and finished with leather edging. We do not sell tall-wall 5D or 7D trays or rubber mats. New or rare models, including new Chinese brands, are templated on the first visit at no extra cost.

Cover the trunk and the third row too

The trunk takes the sandiest load, so give it its own mat, and in a 6–8 seat car cover the third row as well. Wet towels, cool boxes, tents and chairs go straight in after a trip. An EVA trunk mat adds AED 80 to a set and rinses the same way as the floor mats. A Polyamide 12mm trunk mat is AED 150 extra, and Sky Star 20mm or Premium Wool AED 300.

The trunk mat can be any colour, even different from the set. Many owners choose an EVA trunk mat even with a wool cabin set, so the cabin stays soft and the trunk stays washable. That way the gear from camping season lands on a mat you can take out and wash, not on the trunk carpet.

Large SUVs sell well in the UAE: the Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser were among the top-selling new models of 2025, according to Best Selling Cars Blog. If your car has 6–8 seats, covering the third row adds about 35% to the set price, which keeps sand off the back floor too.

A cleaning routine for each mat material

The right routine depends on the material (the short version is in how to clean car mats), and EVA is the simplest after a sandy weekend. Lift the mats out, tip the sand away from the car, rinse them with a hose and let them dry before refitting. Do the trunk mat at the same time, so nothing sandy goes back in.

Pile and polyamide mats, Polyamide 12mm and Sky Star 20mm alike, are shaken out and vacuumed rather than rinsed. Take them out, shake them hard to release the sand, then vacuum both the mat and the floor underneath. For drink or food spills, wipe the spot with a damp cloth.

Wool needs the gentlest care. Vacuum a wool mat weekly and blot any spill with mild soap instead of rubbing it. Never put a hose on wool. If you head to the beach or the dunes often, pairing a wool cabin set with an EVA trunk mat keeps the sandiest load on the washable surface.

What not to do when sand gets in

Do not hose wool mats: vacuum them weekly and blot any spill with mild soap instead. Pile and polyamide are cared for by shaking out, vacuuming and a damp cloth for spills. If you want a mat you can simply rinse with a hose after every sandy trip, that is exactly what EVA is for.

Do not leave a sliding or undersized mat in place. If it shifts every time you get in, sand escapes around its edges and ends up in the carpet it was meant to protect. A mat cut to the shape of your floor fills the space it is meant to cover, which is where a custom set earns its price.
