EVA is a light closed-cell foam. The honeycomb does the work: whatever comes in on your shoes drops into the cells and stays there until you lift the mat out.
Fine beach and desert sand falls to the bottom of the honeycomb, below your shoes. It doesn't spread around the cabin or grind into the carpet.
A spilled bottle, rain, the drip from the AC — the cells hold it. Lift the mat out with two hands and pour it away.
Shake out the sand; now and then rinse under a hose. No chemicals. EVA doesn't absorb water, so it dries in minutes.
A full set weighs a fraction of a rubber tray — easy to lift out, shake and put back.
