7D Car Mats in Dubai: What They Are, What They Cost, and the Measured Alternative We Cut Instead

What a 7D car mat actually is

The D in 7D is a marketing number, not a standard. Strip the label off and the product is two parts. The base is a 5D tray: a sheet of XPE foam a few millimetres thick, wrapped in PVC leather, stitched around the edge and heat-formed with walls that rise a few centimetres up the sills and the tunnel. The second part is a loose grass mat, a coil of looped plastic filament on a thin backing, that sits on top of the tray and is meant to catch dirt.

Some sellers call the same thing 9D or 10D when the tray has an extra stitched pattern or a second foam layer. The construction does not change: foam, PVC skin, stitching, plastic grass.

Sold as a full set, a 7D kit usually has a driver and a passenger piece at the front, a one-piece or split rear, sometimes a trunk tray, and grass pieces cut roughly to the same outline.

Where 7D car mats are sold in Dubai and what they cost

In Dubai the main channel is noon, with Amazon.ae and car-accessory shops behind it. Listings are by model: a 7D set for the Nissan Patrol is around AED 355 for four pieces, and a set for the Toyota Prado around AED 344. Prices move with promotions and sellers, so treat those as a range rather than a quote.

That puts a 7D set in the same money as a measured EVA set at AED 250 and below a Polyamide 12mm set at AED 450 (both are in our car mat price list). The difference is what you get for it: a heat-formed tray made to a generic mould of the model, versus a set cut to the pattern of your car and edged in stitched leather.

Fit on marketplace 7D sets is model-based, not car-based: one mould for a generation, with no allowance for a different trim, seat rail or fixing point layout.

How 7D car mats behave in UAE heat

A car parked in the sun in Dubai reaches 60–70°C inside. Flexible PVC holds its shape and softness with plasticisers, and at those temperatures they migrate out of the skin. That is the sweet chemical smell that fills the cabin when you open the door, and it is strongest in the first summer.

The foam under the skin is glued to it. Heat cycles, hot every afternoon and cooler at night, work on that glue, and the layers begin to separate: the skin lifts at the corners, the walls slump, and the tray no longer sits flat. The stitching around the edge holds, but the tray inside it has changed shape.

The grass layer has its own problem: sand. The loops catch it, which is the point, but they do not let go of it. Shaking the piece drops part of the sand; the rest stays until you hose it. Meanwhile the grass rubs on the PVC skin under it and wears it dull.

What we cut instead: a measured set without a tray

We do not make 7D, 5D or any other PVC tray. What we make is a measured set: a pattern taken from your car, or reused for a model we have already templated, cut on a cutting machine in our Sharjah workshop and finished with stitched leather edging. There is no foam layer and no glue, so there is nothing to separate in the heat.

For the job a 7D buyer is usually trying to do, keeping sand and water off the carpet, the answer is EVA at AED 250: a honeycomb sheet whose cells hold sand and water until you rinse the mat with a hose. It is closed-cell, so it does not absorb water or smells. Roll colours are black, beige, blue and orange, with edging in 9 colours.

If you want carpet underfoot, Polyamide 12mm at AED 450 is a dense 12 mm polyamide pile with a reinforced heel pad under the driver, and Sky Star 20mm at AED 900 and Premium Wool at AED 1400 suit a premium cabin. Measuring and fitting at your place are included in Dubai and Sharjah.

7D vs a measured set: the comparison

The table below sets a 7D kit against our measured EVA and carpet sets on the points that matter in the UAE: coverage, heat, sand, cleaning, lifespan and price. One honest line first: a 7D tray has walls and a measured set does not. If your priority is a lip that holds a litre of water, a moulded tray, in TPE rather than PVC, is the better tool.

On everything else the measured set wins by being made for one car and having no laminate to fail. A 7D set is cheaper to make and quicker to ship, and it shows: model-based moulds, PVC in a hot climate and a grass layer that is a sand trap by design.

Which one should you buy

Buy a 7D set if you want a tray with walls, a leather look and the lowest price that gives you both, and you accept that it will smell in the first summer and may deform. Buy a measured EVA set if you carry sand and water and want mats you rinse with a hose and forget. Buy a measured pile or wool set if the cabin is the point.
